This year at the AXO National Convention, I was captivated by an award recipient and her speech. The award recipient's name is Sandy Singleton from Gamma Rho, Texas Tech University.
While most blogs on this site are about sisters from Omega, Sandy is a treasured exception.
I was unaware at the time that Sandy's influence on me and all Alpha Chis who ever lived at 735 NE Monroe was possibly more significant than the speech she delivered that day.
Sandy was recognized at the convention for her lifelong dedication to supporting Alpha Chi Omega. The current leadership surprised her with this recognition and highlighted her numerous achievements to all the 900+ attendees.
Sandy held several leadership roles and played a crucial role in the house remodel during the late 1980s, including the development of the senior wing. Despite not being an Omega, she live in Spokane as a child and had a deep respect for the Washington State chapter.
Sandy's dedication and mentorship of then Rush Chair Jeannette Bowers Weaver was a strong partnership and friendship. Sandy flew out to Pullman multiple times to really get to know the sisters. The impact of their work together enabled one of the most successful recruitment seasons in Omega's history. The staircase in particular was a big attraction to PNMs. The year after the remodel, Omega won a National Award for their Rush season.
Sandy Sandy embodies the motto "Together Let Us Seek the Heights".
The Speech
Sandy's speech was so powerful I tracked her down and asked if I could get a copy of it. I told her I wanted to use some of her inspirational words for our membership campaign, but the truth is all of her speech is inspirational. Please enjoy Sandy's speech in its entirety.
(Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this.) I was asked to "prepare remarks" but wasn't told for what.
