Omega Chapters: Megan O'Mera

Megan O’Mera MC16 Exudes Optimism

I first met Megan in 2024 as we gathered at the SeaTac airport to attend the Alpha Chi Omega National Convention in Indianapolis. It didn’t take long to know that Megan is one of those women who show up and show out. Her smile is an always-on invitation and her energy feeds the room. Since the convention, her phone number is baked into my phone and our text string is 23 swipes long!

Megan has a mindset that serves her well in many areas of her life. It’s reassuring, simple, and something so many of us forget. Her philosophy is “No matter what happens, I’ll be OK”. This philosophy grew out of the many bold choices she’s taken over her 28 years and also from the simple fact that life will surprise us.

Show Up and Show Out

Did you know that Megan was the 2015 Sequim Irrigation Queen?

Even as a teenager, Megan’s Show Up and Show Out personality was in full force. In her small, gorgeous town on the Olympic Peninsula she was president of her Junior and Senior class, an AP student, and a member of the high school golf and swim teams.

A College Experience

In 2016, she showed up at Washington State University and jumped feet first into recruitment. Lucky for us, Megan landed at Alpha Chi Omega (or as she called it “Alpha Chigh Omega") and the rest is history.

She was the VP, Finance and made time to be involved with all the great social opportunities Greek life had to offer.

Smart woman that she was; she distinctly pursued not only a college education but a college experience. She was in Pullman for College Game Day and for the Minshew football games.

As a Hospitality major, she was a barista at the coffee cart in Todd Hall and she had a job lined up after graduation at the soon-to-be-opened 4 star 7 Cedars Hotel and Casino. Life was on fire!

And Then Covid Hit

Megan was in the final semester of her Senior year at WSU, when the unthinkable happened. Covid happened.

Suddenly classes went online, the coffee cart had new health guidelines, there were rules about gathering together, and Spring Break was generously extended to 2 weeks.

Interestingly, Megan knew Spring Break was going to be much longer than 2 weeks. Her friends were confused when she nearly emptied her apartment when she headed home for “Break”. Graduation turned into a sad online event watched in her family’s living room. When she returned in June 2020 to officially move out of her apartment, Pullman was a ghost town.

And, her fabulous job was put on hold. Eventually, 7 Cedars restarted building and Megan made the bold choice to go to work even though she would have made more money with the Covid Payment Protection Program. It turns out this benefitted her long game.

Perhaps her biggest takeaway from the Covid era has turned into her biggest strength. She knows that no matter what happens; she’ll be fine.

How Fine?

Megan is living the dream. While she worked at 7 Cedars in 2020, she had the opportunity to grow with a dynamic job description while rolling with the punches of opening a hotel mid-Covid. Noticing that real estate was thriving as Covid lingered, she leveraged her business education and experience into a new career in the mortgage industry.

And now she owns her own mortgage business with her father. She leads with customer service and serves not only Washington but also Idaho where she is building a life for herself in Coeur D’Alene.

In addition to owning her own business, Megan’s life is rich with experiences. She’s one of Sigma Psi Sigma’s most active members. She believes in Cougs helping Cougs which is why she is the Finance Advisor for Omega. She attends alum events with the Spokane AXO Chapter as well as participating in Pullman alum events like the Race for Campus Safety and Hall of Commitment. She’s learning fly fishing and nurturing new friendships in Coeur D’Alene.
